Living in “Free Time”

Do we know how to live without goals?

I have noticed what incredible joy there is in not having any plans at night. I spent so many years teaching yoga or classes, busy evenings became quite the norm. Then, while travelling, I was often living with people, so we would always hang out together or “do something” in the evenings.

I love hanging out with friends and teaching for sure. Don’t get me wrong. But there is a strange little joy as I’m winding down for the day when I realize that there is nothing planned at all.

How did we get so busy? How did every moment get filled so fast?

When my kids were at home, it was piano lessons on Monday, soccer on Tuesday, karate on Wednesday, swimming on Thursday, horseback-riding on Friday, always something on Saturday, and lunch at grandma & grandpas on Sunday… not to mention work, school, and just keeping up with a normally busy household.

We also used to do it with TV. We would watch “these” shows on Monday, “those” shows on Tuesday, etc. Now we start watching a…
